After the sharp correction in antimony prices during June and July, the market has shown signs of stabilization and recovery in August.
By late August 2026, 1# antimony ingot prices had recovered to around RMB 103,000/ton, while antimony trioxide prices remained at elevated levels depending on grade and supplier.
For the flame-retardant industry, however, the more important question is not simply:
“Where will antimony prices go next?”
It is:
“How much antimony exposure does your formulation want to carry?”
From Price Volatility to Supply-Chain Risk
The recent price movement is a reminder that antimony is no longer simply a conventional flame-retardant synergist.
Its supply is closely linked to mineral resource availability, mining controls and international trade policies. At the same time, demand continues to come from multiple industries, including flame retardants and other antimony-consuming applications.
This creates a challenging environment for compounders and flame-retardant formulators:
• Higher and more volatile raw-material costs
• Greater exposure to supply-chain disruptions
• Increasing pressure to optimize formulation costs
• Growing demand for halogen-free and more sustainable solutions
• More attention to reducing dependence on a single critical raw material
For many customers, therefore, antimony reduction is becoming a strategic formulation decision — not simply a cost-saving exercise.
The Industry Is Moving Beyond “More or Less Antimony”
The traditional approach has often been to optimize the dosage of Sb₂O₃ within an existing flame-retardant system.
But today's market is encouraging a different question:
Can we achieve the required flame-retardant performance while significantly reducing or eliminating antimony?
The answer depends heavily on the polymer, flame-retardant chemistry, loading level, processing conditions and target performance requirements.
There is no universal “drop-in replacement” for every formulation.
What matters is developing a system-level solution.
Where Antimony-Free Technologies Come In
This is where alternative synergistic technologies are becoming increasingly relevant.
At Linkason Tech, we have been focusing on high-efficiency flame-retardant solutions designed to help compounders and formulators reduce their dependence on antimony.
Our LHX-HB-01 and LHX-999 are developed as high-efficiency alternatives to conventional antimony-based synergistic systems, with the goal of helping customers explore:
Lower antimony → optimized formulation cost → greater supply-chain resilience
The real value is not simply replacing one raw material with another.
It is about giving formulators more options when designing the next generation of flame-retardant systems.
The Question for 2026–2027
Antimony prices may rise, fall, or continue to fluctuate.
But one trend is becoming increasingly clear:
Formulation flexibility is becoming a competitive advantage.
Companies that can successfully develop high-performance flame-retardant systems with reduced dependence on critical raw materials may be better positioned to manage both cost volatility and supply-chain uncertainty.
At Linkason Tech, we believe the future of flame retardancy is not about choosing between performance and resilience.
It is about engineering both.
If you are currently working on antimony reduction, antimony-free flame-retardant formulations, halogen-free systems, or cost optimization for PA/PBT/PP/ABS and other engineering plastics, we would be happy to exchange ideas and discuss potential formulation approaches.
Less dependence. More flexibility. Greater resilience.
